I am a freelance writer who spent most of my 20s working in magazines and writing/editing about beauty and health. I took my game to pastry school at The French Culinary Institute when my job at Martha Stewart’s Blueprint vanished into the ether with the magazine in December 2007, the month widely agreed upon now as the beginning of The Great Recession.
This humble web scroll began as a distraction, a means to keep myself busy during my days of underemployment. I don’t actually endorse baking and eating with impunity when you’re feeling down, but I do think there’s something to the act of creating edibles, beautiful and functional. It’s an ongoing work-in-progress log—I really do hate the word blaaahg—documenting many things sweet (and savory), with a dose of the bitter, sour, and salty on the side. Mmm, life.
